Attention, VALORANT Enthusiasts!

In light of the recent unveiling of our captivating DUALITY cinematic, I'm eager to delve into its significance within the expansive realm of the VALORANT Universe. Join me as we address some prevalent inquiries, unravel the narrative, and provide a sneak peek into our upcoming ventures.

It's been a phenomenal year since the inauguration of VALORANT! Undoubtedly, it has been an eventful journey for each one of you. Let's take a moment to reminisce and transport ourselves back to the pivotal launch moment of VALORANT.

DUELIST, the precursor, introduced us to two formidable Agents, Phoenix & Jett, embroiled in a high-stakes pursuit across the rooftops of a European city, vying for control over a cryptic "package."

The climax witnessed the ignition of this enigmatic package, unleashing a reality-altering effect on a major city and setting off global confrontations.

Our latest cinematic, DUALITY, seamlessly picks up where DUELIST left off, shedding light on the underlying conflict that shapes the VALORANT narrative.

The aftermath of IGNITION leaves the world in shock. VALORANT PROTOCOL, a clandestine operation designed to avert such catastrophes, races to decipher the unfolding events. Examination of Venice and the remnants of the package reveals the detonation of a device harnessing the power of Radianite, previously considered a clean and safe energy source.

VALORANT Agents trace another such device to a Kingdom site in Morocco. When implanted into the ground, this "Spike" undergoes an activation sequence. With time running short, can our Agents collaborate to neutralize the device and avert another disaster?

Their primary adversaries, as it turns out, may be... themselves.

In my role as the Creative Director for VALORANT, I ensure the presentation of a cohesive universe that establishes a central conflict, stakes, and objectives, mapping the experience and stakes for you. Collaborating across teams, we strive to release content that feels interconnected and gradually unveils more about the VALORANT universe, both within and beyond the game.

The term "Narrative Dissonance" in videogame development refers to games where the characters and story feel detached from the actual gameplay. While this isn't necessarily a problem, we sought to bring something special to VALORANT, adding depth to the lore. Could we infuse meaning into our 5v5 defend/attack conflict, involving the 'same' pool of Agents in the playspace, and construct a central conflict that makes sense?

Excitingly, we aim to peel back the layers further as we explore the theme of Duality and contemplate these intriguing questions together:

• Who are these 'mirror' Agents?
• Are they two sides of the same coin?
• Why is one side seemingly acting as the aggressor?
• What is the significance of that final shot of Earth, seemingly split in two?

One year into this journey, but rest assured, the adventure has just begun. We eagerly anticipate sharing more insights with you over the next year, addressing your queries, and undoubtedly raising new ones!
